The worked chain fills an applied-teaching gap at introductory level; full normative and control-set coverage remains outside the free supplement.
Original editorial teaching and fictional application, informed by the linked primary passages. Compare your reasoning with the model; this is not independently marked learner work, an official examination key or a replacement for the selected course.

2. Try the fictional case.
Trace export risk R-01 through treatment and applicability
At the starting state, Example Studio develops the app internally. A broad staff export permission could release the full booking list without business approval. The fictional Operations Lead owns the service impact. A custom approval gate is proposed.
Your tasks
- Define a simple method before scoring this risk; distinguish likelihood, consequence and acceptance criteria.
- Record cause/event/consequence, current safeguards and the owner.
- Choose treatment, necessary controls and a review date; compare those choices with relevant Annex A references.
- Create a small SoA extract showing reasons, implementation status and a justified provisional exclusion.
- Separate plan approval from later residual-risk acceptance.
3. Compare your reasoning.
Decide and write your explanation first. Where a table is wider than your screen, focus it and use the arrow keys, or scroll it sideways.
Open explained model guidance
Illustrative method only: likelihood 1 means limited credible exposure, 2 a plausible path and 3 a readily available repeated path; impact 1 minor reversible interruption, 2 significant but limited service harm, 3 full-list disclosure or serious service disruption. Score L×I. Scores 6–9 require prompt treatment/escalation; 3–5 require an explicit owner decision; 1–2 remain recorded and reviewed. These invented thresholds cannot waive an applicable obligation.
R-01: broad export entitlement plus a missing approval gate permits an inappropriate full-list release, affecting confidentiality and service trust. Existing password login does not control export purpose. Fictional initial L3×I3=9; Operations Lead is the risk owner.
Treatment T-01: restrict export roles, require prior independent business approval, record export events, and train staff to use the approved route. Developer owns implementation, with two allocated development days and a planned completion date. The organization-defined approval gate is EXP-01; Annex A comparison includes information transfer, access restriction and logging so necessary areas are not overlooked.
Small SoA extract: A.5.14 information transfer — included because records leave the service; approved process being implemented. A.8.3 information access restriction — included because broad export privilege drives R-01; configuration/test evidence pending. A.8.15 logging — included for reviewable export events; planned until operating evidence exists. A.8.30 outsourced development — provisionally excluded at this starting date because all custom development is internal and the hosting supplier does not develop the app; reconsider if that fact changes. These four rows are not a complete SoA. State how EXP-01 is represented: in this extract it is an implementation mechanism linked to the included transfer/access controls. If the studio instead designates an additional necessary control outside the reference set, give it its own applicability entry with inclusion justification and actual implementation status. A local mechanism does not automatically require duplicate control rows.
Target residual L1×I3=3 is a forecast. The risk owner approves T-01 now, then reviews test/operating evidence and explicitly accepts or escalates the evidenced residual risk under the criteria. Never mark a planned control implemented or a target score achieved merely because it was written down.
Original editorial scoring and four-row extract. It does not reproduce a normative assessment method, all required SoA content, all 93 controls or an official examination answer.
4. Check the work, not just the score.
- Can another learner apply the stated scale consistently and identify an assumption that would change the score?
- Can every treatment and SoA row be traced to a risk, obligation or other justified need?
- Do rows include reasons and actual status, with justified Annex A exclusions?
- Is the provisional A.8.30 decision revisited in ISO05 when a contractor is introduced?
- Is residual-risk acceptance an accountable decision based on evidence, separate from approving the work plan?
These checks help you revise an explanation. They do not certify mastery or predict an examination result. Ask a qualified reviewer to assess a fresh case when independent feedback is needed.
5. Keep the limits in view.
Free coverage added
- A stated illustrative method, acceptance/escalation rules, risk entry, owner, treatment plan and small SoA extract.
- A distinction between planned target residual risk and evidenced risk after implementation.
- Explicit inclusion/exclusion reasoning and a later change that requires reassessment.
Still missing or outside this guide
- Complete exact 6.1 requirements, a complete SoA and justified review of the full Annex A reference set.
- Authorized provider feedback on additional methods, treatment decisions and applicability cases.
- Detailed control purposes/implementation guidance beyond the selected examples.
Payment and access
Free examples improve method and decision practice. They do not replace the paid selected PECB course or licensed requirements/control guidance; check included legitimate access first.
